Cerro Azul: Panama Highlands

IMG_0355Panama is really hot so I was surprised that less than an hour away it is very cool!  Alejandro and Claudia invited me to their holiday home for the weekend and I had no idea what a treat I was in for.  Cerro Azul means Blue Mountains and it is now mostly reserved as national park.  Alejandro was lucky to buy his property before it was declared a nature reserve and his beautiful spot is neighbouring natural forest, so monkeys and other animals can often be seen there. The area around his finca has several holiday homes where people escape from the city.  There are also houses belonging to retirees from USA and Canada and other places. It is truly beautiful and from the balcony you can see the ocean. I met some wonderful friends of theirs from South Africa and Canada and their children. We had a really fun time.
